Eczema can be a life-long condition, so you may have to live with it. But that doesn’t mean you have to live with it getting in the way of your life. Try some of these ideas to prevent future outbreaks or keep it from getting out of control.

• Practice good skin care—Include Dermarest^® Eczema Products in your daily regiment. Dermatologist tested and specially formulated, they moisturize your skin and help relieve the itch.
• Avoid allergens. If a patch tests indicate you may have an allergy, avoid anything that contains the allergen (the substance causing the allergy). For example, if you have an allergy to nickel, avoid wearing costume jewelry and eating foods that contain nickel, such as canned foods.
• Avoid irritants. Avoid substances that irritate your skin. If a certain deodorant or soap causes a reaction, then avoid using that product. Try something fragrance free, for example.
• Avoid certain activities. Over-hot baths, too frequent bathing, sitting next to a fire are all things that can dry, heat, or irritate your skin.
• De-stress. Stress may be a natural part of life, but too much stress isn’t good for your health or our eczema. Find ways to relax, whether it’s taking a walk, listening to music, or playing a game of Solitaire.
• Bathe less often. Try going a day or two without a shower or bath, to avoid drying out your skin. When you do bathe, use warm, rather than hot water, and limit the bath or shower to 15 or 20 minutes.
• Protect your skin. Use gloves to protect your hands from irritants and allergies, wear 100% cotton socks, and avoid wearing rough fabrics, such as wool, which can irritate the skin.
